Case Study: APTIV
OVERVIEW
Aptiv wanted to showcase their ability to enable turnkey fleet management business models by demonstrating the company's platform control over data collection, real-time transmission, analysis and visual processing. We were involved with creating the pitch, researching and designing the digital service experience of a web-based autonomous fleet management system, from concept to prototype to handoff for final technical implementation.
The design of our fleet management admin interface enabled fleet managers, dispatchers, mechanics and emergency support personnel to gain real-time access to fleet asset data, and provided them with the right tools required to optimize their fleet operations and guide immediate and long-term decision making, while reducing operational costs, and increasing overall reliability and ridership.
Aptiv's Connect (Command Center) fleet management solution was installed in Aptiv's Tech Center in Las Vegas. It was rendered by dual projectors, showing the map view and dashboard view side-by-side on a 30ft x 6ft screen. Simultaneously, fleet managers were also able to access their individual fleet and autonomous car views on their Tech Center workstations and mobile devices.
During the design process, additional future-state requirements for managing autonomous commercial transport vehicle fleets were mapped and incorporated into the design.

BY THE NUMBERS
We planned, recruited for, and conducted 12 interviews with fleet managers, mechanics, drivers and passengers of Aptiv's autonomous Lyft fleet in Las Vegas.
To facilitate the choice and prioritization of MVP features, we researched and co-facilitated the creation of a future autonomous fleet service ecosystem map.
In order to visualize the critical hypotheses considered during stakeholder workshops, the team built medium-fidelity wireframes using Sketch.
Our team co/facilitated a variety of ideation, co-creation and validation workshops, ideation workshops in Las Vegas, Detroit and Ottawa that were instrumental in guiding the design process.
Ampli2de™ was responsible for the creation of clickable, high-fidelity prototypes that were demoed periodically to senior Aptiv stakeholders.
We led a team of 2 designers and researchers, alongside other Aptiv internal resources, through the delivery of a pilot/proof of concent for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
