Electrostatic 3D User Interface
Posted: April 28, 2009 22:23 ET by AmpliDude

In a previous blog post, we have talked briefly about brain user interfaces as a possible wave of the future in human-computer interaction. Students at Northwestern University have come up with an equally intriguing concept: an electrostatic 3D user interface. To control the device, a user waves a hand in the air, and the system automatically detects the hand's position in three dimensions.

The device has the ability to track the position of a user's hand in three dimensions. The novelty in this demostration comes from the fact that no physical contact is required and the user does not need to use any type of controller (such as a mouse) or attach markers to their body. For more information, including a very intriguing DJing application, please view the original video posted on Vimeo.
